On October 29, 2019, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano visited the Yonkers Fire Recruitment Office of the Yonkers Fire Department to formally announce the opening of a new recruitment period for additional fire fighters.
In his speech, Mayor Spano encouraged men and women living in Yonkers to join the Yonkers Fire Department and continue its rich tradition of serving and protecting Yonkers and its residents. The city provides competitive salaries, an excellent benefits package, and opportunities for training and development.
To qualify as Yonkers fire fighter, applicants must be at least 17 years and 6 months old but not more than 28 years old on the day of the written exam. They must have finished high school, or have equivalent diplomas. They must have been legal residents of Westchester County for at least 3 months immediately preceding the day of the written exam. They must also be holders of valid Class D driver’s licenses from New York. Finally, the candidates must pass a background investigation and physical exam.
Applications will be accepted at the Yonkers Fire Recruitment Office, and at the Yonkers Civil Service Office until January 10, 2020. The written exam will be administered on April 25, 2020. Applicants will be ranked according to the results of their qualifying written and medical exams. Successful applicants will be called to active service as vacant positions become available.
